3in 20 cwt (Archie) WW1 Anti-Aircraft Gun

Work in progress

P.O.A.

A very rare MK 1V 3in 20 cwt Anti-Aircraft gun, made in 1917 by Vickers.

The mount is a MK 1V H.A. mount made by Vickers in 1916.

The lower mount is a Dyson Trailer made c 1925.

The gun and mount were mounted on SS Gitano sunk by a mine of Jutland in December 1918 with the loss of all hands.

After salvage it was displayed outside Formas lighthouse, Jutland for a number of years.

After which it stood outside the warehouse of a dealer in militaria in Kjellerup, Denmark.

It was shipped to UK in spring 2013.

Between the wars these guns were not only mounted on ships but became the a/a guns of the British Army and mounted on Dyson trailers. This trailer had been converted to farm use and was found in Derbyshire in 2013.

We are currently restoring the gun, mount and trailer back to it pre WW11 configuration.

There are only six 3in 20 cwt guns left in the world, this is the only MK 1V and the only one on a Dyson trailer as per the handbook dated 1930.
